Especially in racing games and playing Gran Turismo 3, I discovered for the first time that pressing harder actually made a difference in my speed. Normally it was instinctive for me to press the keys as hard as possible depending on the game. When I had my PlayStation 2 over a decade ago, I didn’t really pay much attention to the feature. Applying different pressures to the buttons would result in more or less of the disc touching a conductive strip placed on top of the controller’s circuit board. So how did the pressure-sensitive buttons inside the controller work? Below each button was a tiny curved disc. ![]() Here you would see a red bordered box that says “pressure sensitive”. ![]() ![]() In fact, the only way to really find out was by looking at the back of a game’s box and at the bottom (the same area that says how many players a game supports).
